BACH's LEGACY

Motets and Choral works by Bach and his followers
Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, Herr, zu dir Cantata 131
Komm, Jesu, komm
Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf
Mendelssohn: Sechs Sprüche
Brahms: Fest- und Gedenksprüche
Sandström: Komm, Jesu, komm
Nystedt: Immortal Bach

These concerts will feature motets and choral works by J. S. Bach, along with choral masterpieces by Mendelssohn and Brahms, two composers who were profoundly influenced by the Cantor of Leipzig and sought to emulate his style. Bach’s exquisite cantata 131, “Out of the depths I call to thee,” is one of his earliest, composed at the age of 22. And his motet settings, for double chorus and instruments, became the inspiration for future generations of composers.

These performances are generously sponsored in part by Hugh Davies & Kaneez Munjee.

Sven-David Sandström discusses his dedication to composing works "in the footprints of Bach":
