DAVID DANIEL BOWES (viola) began his musical studies in Ohio at age 5 with piano lessons, and at age 7 began the violin. At age 17 he received a five-year, full-tuition scholarship for study on both instruments, with a double major in performance and education. Love of travel and adventure took him four times to the Aspen Music Festival, as a Fellowship Violist. This led to study with Lillian Fuchs, at the Manhattan School of Music, and to London, where he studied the release of tensions in performance with Kato Havas. In 1982 he attended the Aston Magna Academy and the Vancouver Early Music Program, where he studied Baroque violin with Monica Huggett. Later that year he was invited to join Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra. In 1984 he studied with Sigiswald Kuijken in Antwerp, and began working with Les Arts Florissants (1984-1987).  David was invited to join American Bach Soloists in 1992. During that time, not wishing to neglect his interest in the symphonic literature, he was Acting Principal Viola for San Jose Symphony, and performed with the San Francisco Symphony, the SF Opera Orchestra, and the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra. In Europe, he has participated in staged opera, concerts, and oratorios with Il Complesso Barocco (Alan Curtis), the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra (Ton Koopman), and with Les Arts Florissants (William Christie) in the premiere performances of Lully's Atys. A recitalist, teacher, and soloist, he made his solo debut with violinist Margaret Tyson Klein in a performance of the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante. He continues to work with gifted young musicians in the Golden Gate Philharmonic (Geoffrey Gallegos and Joan Murray) in San Francisco. Most recently, he has coached at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and adjudicated the Stanford Concerto Competitions in '06, '07, and '08.  Since 1998, David has been a licensed CA realtor, now affliated with San Francisco's only "green" brokerage, Green Key Real Estate.
